- It’s official: Broadcom to acquire VMware in massive $61B deal - While it doesn’t seem like the most intuitive match, the giant chip producer expects VMware to bring some stability to the volatile chip market. People are pretty excited about this one.
- Microsoft announces general availability of Cloud for Sustainability - While it’s on everyone’s mind, when building a more sustainable organization, it’s hard to know how to go forward without knowing where you’re at. Microsoft’s Cloud for Sustainability makes that easier with their SaaS that allows organizations to record, report, and reduce emissions associated with running their applications, for a clearer view of how their sustainability efforts are going.
- Alibaba Cloud opens third data center in Germany - Speaking of sustainability, Alibaba Cloud’s newest data center extends the company’s reach to 84 availability zones across 27 regions, while being cooled by natural cool ambient air instead of mechanical refrigeration.
- Amazon flexes its retail muscle with a brick-and-mortar clothing store - Who ever thought that buying some new clothes would include palm recognition checkout? Amazon did. In their flagship LA clothing store, customers can scan QR codes next to clothes they like, choose sizes on the app, send them all to a fitting room, and pay with their palm. We’re very curious to see how this plays out.
- WhatsApp ramps up revenue with global launch of Cloud API and soon, a paid tier for its Business App - Aimed at small businesses (successfully!), now more than 1 billion users connect to WhatsApp with a business account every week. Now, the massive messaging app is opening up to businesses of all sizes to meet their customers where they live.
