If we said we didn’t have high hopes that come April Fool’s Day some colossal being would descend to announce the joke, well, we’d be fooling. Now we’re just rolling with it.

CLOUD NEWS
- 9 tech companies improving the environment - In honour of Earth Day last week, here’s some good news from Big Tech. From Amazon’s EV delivery fleet to Ericsson USA’s 5G Smart Factory that runs on 100% renewable electricity, we’re ready for the fourth (much kinder) industrial revolution.
- C2i, a genomics SaaS product to detect traces of cancer, raises $100M Series B - Staying on this good news train, New York-based C2i is doing what MRIs and X-rays falter at: their software detects faint patterns in sequenced genomes in patients after surgery to determine whether the cancer is still present or not, making it much clearer what next steps to take. And all you need is a blood sample.
- Microsoft: We’re on pace to build 50 to 100 new datacenters each year - That’s a lot of datacenters, Microsoft. They’re also looking to build in 10 more countries this year, the latest being Malaysia. And in true lockdown spirit, you can even take a look inside one with a virtual tour.
- Microsoft is sharing previously secret information to help cloud customers save energy - Oh good, we were nervous for a second. Microsoft also has a whole lot of ideas to help curb emissions from these cloud datacenters, which are way more efficient than on-prem. As a gesture, they’re now sharing power usage data with select Azure customers in their quest to be more transparent. Baby steps!
- QuikNode is building a blockchain developer cloud platform to compete with AWS - And AWS has got their eye on them. QuikNode’s platform provides the unique ability for blockchain developers to “rent” a node already set up on blockchain networks to make it faster and easier for them to create and scale applications.
- VMware announces new Anywhere Workspace tool to help businesses make remote work easier - The now-free-wheeling VMware is combining 3 existing products, Workspace One, Carbon Black Cloud, and VMware SASE, to make for a smoother and more secure communion between IT teams and those edge operators.
- Verizon and Honda want to use 5G and edge computing to make driving safer - They’re just in the research phase, mind you, but it sounds like the future might hold cars, pedestrians, and infrastructure all talking to each other to decide the likelihood of accidents before they happen.
- Salesforce updates Service Cloud to meet post-pandemic consumer demands - Those tireless customer service reps have been working double-time during the pandemic, and the customers are now grown accustomed (see what I did there?) to a certain standard of service. Salesforce’s fleet of chatbots, integrated CRMs with multi-channel communication, and remote field service are all ready for the post-pandemic spending spree.
That’s all for April, and if you’ve had a good time with us this newsletter, let us know by sharing on social media (links below) and keep your friends up to date.
